Netherlands Visa Processing Time from India in 2026
The Netherlands is one of the most popular Schengen destinations for Indian travellers — whether it's a work trip to Amsterdam, visiting family in Rotterdam, or a canal-hopping holiday. However, it consistently has one of the longer processing times among Schengen countries from India, often lagging behind France, Italy, and Switzerland.
Here's what we see in our data from tracking thousands of Dutch visa dispatches across all Indian VFS centres.
Current processing time
As of 20 Oct 2026, Netherlands visas from India are taking a median of 40 days at VFS Delhi, 38 days in Bangalore and 30 days in Mumbai, based on 21,692 passports we've seen dispatched by BlueDart. Half of applicants get their passport back sooner than the median.

Processing time by city
The Dutch embassy processes applications from every VFS centre, but the wait isn't the same everywhere: the table above puts them side by side, busiest first. Smaller centres have fewer passports behind their numbers, so their medians move around more from week to week.

What affects Netherlands visa processing
Several factors determine how quickly the Dutch embassy processes your application:
- Time of year: Summer is the busiest season for Schengen applications from India, and waits tend to grow with demand. We've been tracking since June 2026, so we can't show a full year's pattern yet. For a summer trip, book your appointment as early as the rules allow (up to six months before you travel).
- Application type: Tourist visas are the most common and generally process fastest. Business visas can take longer if they require additional company verification. Family visit visas may need extra documentation checks.
- Completeness of application: The Dutch embassy is known for being thorough. Missing documents — especially proof of accommodation, travel insurance, or bank statements — can delay your application by a week or more.
- Travel history: First-time Schengen applicants sometimes face longer processing as the embassy performs additional background checks. If you have prior Schengen stamps, processing is generally faster.
Netherlands visa requirements from India
The Dutch embassy requires standard Schengen visa documents. Key items include:
- Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond your return date
- Completed Schengen visa application form
- Two recent passport-sized photos (35mm × 45mm)
- Travel insurance covering at least €30,000
- Flight itinerary (round-trip reservation)
- Hotel booking or invitation letter from host
- Last 3 months of bank statements showing sufficient funds
- Cover letter explaining purpose and itinerary
- Employment letter or business registration
How to track your Netherlands visa
Once your application is submitted, VFS provides minimal status updates (what each Netherlands status means). But we track the processing frontier several times a day across all cities. Visit the Netherlands all-cities tracker to see how far the embassy has processed. If your application date is before the current frontier date, your passport has likely been dispatched — you can track it on BlueDart using your VFS reference number.
Bottom line
The Netherlands tends to have longer processing times than many other Schengen countries from India. Plan around the “9 in 10 within” figure for your centre in the table above, plus time for your appointment and for the courier to deliver your passport.
