How to Track Your VFS Passport on Blue Dart
When the embassy has decided your visa, VFS sends your passport back by Blue Dart courier. You don't need to wait for an SMS to find it: Blue Dart lets you search by the number on your VFS receipt, and the shipment usually shows up there the same evening it leaves VFS. Many applicants see their passport on Blue Dart before VFS tells them anything.
The short version
- Take the number printed on your VFS receipt, for example
NLD/BLR/210826/0012/01. - For most countries, remove the slashes:
NLDBLR210826001201. - Go to bluedart.com/tracking, choose Ref No (not Waybill), and search for it.
Or paste your receipt number here and we'll build the Blue Dart links for you:
As printed on the receipt VFS gave you, for example NLD/BLR/210826/0012/01. Nothing you type leaves this page.
Which number to use
Only the VFS receipt number works, the one on the receipt or invoice you got at the VFS centre. It has the country, the VFS centre, the date you submitted, your token number and a two-digit member number:
NLD / BLR / 210826 / 0012 / 01 = Netherlands, Bangalore centre, submitted 21 Aug 2026, token 12, first person in the group.
Numbers from earlier steps don't work on Blue Dart: the code from the online application form (for the Netherlands it starts with NEDL), your appointment confirmation, or your passport number (with a few exceptions below).
Travelling as a family? Each person has their own receipt, ending 01, 02, 03 and so on, and each passport travels as its own Blue Dart shipment. Search for each one separately; they don't always leave on the same day.
The reference format each embassy uses
Which format Blue Dart holds depends on who ships your passport back, and that depends on which embassy or consulate decides your application, not only on where you applied. We check thousands of references every day, and this is what we've seen:
| Who decides your visa | What to type on Blue Dart |
|---|---|
| Most countries and centres. Every country and VFS centre not listed below, including all of Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria and Poland, and Italy for Delhi, Chandigarh, Kolkata and Bhubaneswar. | Receipt number without slashesNLDBLR210826001201 |
| Italy, Bangalore consulate (Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai) and France, Kolkata consulate. | With the slashes, stopping after the token number. Blue Dart keeps only the first 20 characters, so the member number is cut offITA/BLR/040926/0038/ |
| Czech Republic, Mumbai consulate. Many passports from Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune, Ahmedabad and Kochi. | If your receipt number starts with two letters for the city and then CZ, type it without slashesMHCZ020926000901 |
| Mumbai consulates of Belgium, France, Hungary and Italy (between them they also cover Pune, Ahmedabad, Kochi and, for Belgium and Hungary, the south), France for Bangalore and Hyderabad, Portugal for Mumbai, Pune, Kochi and Goa, and Bulgaria since July 2026. | Blue Dart doesn't hold the VFS receipt number for these. The VFS Mumbai counter often enters your passport number instead, so try that. Otherwise use the waybill number from the dispatch SMS. |
Spain is different: applications go through BLS International, not VFS, and passports come back by DTDC.
When Blue Dart says “Records Not Found”
Work through these in order:
- It probably hasn't left VFS yet. Blue Dart only knows the number once VFS books the shipment, usually the evening it leaves. Try again the next day.
- Check the format in the table above. No spaces, and the member number at the end (01 for the first person).
- Try it exactly as printed, slashes included. The person at the VFS counter sometimes types the receipt number straight off the receipt instead of the usual format. In September 2026 a Finland passport for Mumbai was booked as
FIMU/080926/0013/01, the receipt's own wording, while every other Finland passport that day was booked asFINMHL080926…. The helper above gives you both versions. - Did you choose collection at a VFS centre? Passports collected at VFS Delhi never go by courier, so there's nothing to find. If you collect at another centre, your passport usually travels there from Delhi by Blue Dart and does show up.
What the Blue Dart statuses mean
- Shipment Arrived at “Vfs Ops -Del Np”: Blue Dart has collected your passport from VFS Delhi. This is the dispatch.
- Shipment Further Connected / Arrived At Hub: it's moving between Blue Dart hubs, usually overnight.
- Out For Delivery: it arrives today. Keep your phone on; Blue Dart texts you on the day of delivery.
- Wrong Pincode / Redirected: Blue Dart is correcting the address. It can still arrive the same day.
- Shipment Delivered: if you don't have it, contact VFS straight away.
Most passports leaving Delhi in the evening reach other big cities the next day. Blue Dart can't tell you whether the visa was approved: the envelope looks the same either way.
Don't rely on the VFS SMS
Many applicants who paid for SMS updates tell us the dispatch message never came, or came after the passport arrived. The VFS tracking page also lags. Blue Dart is the first place a dispatch appears. If you'd still like to check VFS, here's how to track your application on the VFS website.
Not dispatched yet? See how far the embassy has got
We run these Blue Dart searches for every application date and VFS centre, several times a day, and show what has been dispatched on each country's page. Pick your country and city on the tracker to see which application dates are coming back now and how your date compares. If you're still waiting, read what “under process at embassy” means.
