Norway Visa Processing Time from India in 2026
Norway's fjords, northern lights, and midnight sun make it an increasingly popular Schengen destination for Indian travellers. While application volumes are lower than France or Italy, Norway visa processing from India has its own patterns worth understanding.
Current processing time
As of 20 Oct 2026, Norway visas from India are taking a median of 5 days at VFS Bangalore, based on 275 passports we've seen dispatched by BlueDart. Half of applicants get their passport back sooner than the median.
| Centre | Median wait | 9 in 10 within | Passports tracked |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bangalore | 5 days | 8 days | 275 |
Median and 90th-percentile wait from application date to courier dispatch, for applications made 45–90 days ago. Too little recent data for Delhi, Pune, Chennai, Kolkata, Kochi and Chandigarh. Live numbers for every centre, updated several times a day: compare Norway centres.
Norway gets far fewer applications from India than the big Schengen countries, so its numbers rest on fewer passports and can move quickly. The table above lists every centre we have enough recent data for, busiest first; centres not in it don't have enough dispatches yet to give a reliable number. Live pages: Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and the city comparison for the rest.
What affects Norwegian visa processing
- Northern lights season: Applications increase from September to March for northern lights trips. Summer applications (May–July) also spike for midnight sun and fjord cruises.
- Financial requirements: Norway is one of the most expensive countries in Europe. The embassy expects proof of higher daily budgets than typical Schengen applications — plan for €120–180 per day.
- Accommodation proof: Hotel bookings or a confirmed invitation from a Norwegian host are important. For northern lights trips, cabin or lodge bookings in Tromsø or Lofoten should be documented clearly.
- Svalbard note: Svalbard does not require a visa, but if your flight routes through Oslo or another Schengen city, you still need a Schengen visa for the transit/stopover.

Tracking your Norway visa
After submitting your application through VFS, you receive a reference number but get minimal status updates. Our tracker monitors courier dispatches to show the processing frontier — the latest application date for which passports have been dispatched.
Check the Norway all-cities tracker daily. Once the frontier reaches your application date, your passport is on its way. Track the courier using your VFS reference number on BlueDart.
Tips for Norway visa applicants
- Budget generously: Norway is significantly more expensive than most European destinations. A hotel in Oslo or Tromsø can easily cost €150–250/night. Show bank balances that cover these costs comfortably.
- Book northern lights trips early: Popular lodges in Tromsø and Lofoten sell out months ahead. Having confirmed bookings strengthens your application.
- Leave a buffer: Plan around the “9 in 10 within” figure for your centre above, plus time to get an appointment, especially for trips in the September–March northern lights season.
- Check your own centre: You normally have to apply at the centre that covers where you live, so look up that centre's current wait rather than the all-India figure.
Bottom line
The current Norwegian wait at each VFS centre is in the table above. Apply early, show strong financials to cover Norway's high costs, and bookmark the Norway tracker to monitor when your application date is reached.
